I was first introduced to lockpicking by Barry Wels at the Hackers On Planet Earth (HOPE) conference in New York City in 2006. I caught up with Barry and thanked him for the presentation. I asked if there were any chapters of his organization in the US. He told me to come to a meeting he was having the next day. When I showed up he introduced me to Babak Javadi, Eric Schmeidl and Eric Michaud, who all seemed pretty surprised to meet me. I quickly found out why when Barry opened his arms and said "You four are my new board of directors for TOOOL, US!" I was thrown into the deep end quickly, but I had the best teachers in the world. I attended the Dutch Open that year and won half of my head to head matches my first time out. I found I loved competition.
I eventually left the board of TOOOL US and set out on my own. I founded Non-Destructive Entry magazine, which I still hope to relaunch someday. Twice I have won the only major locksport competition in America, which is held in conjunction with DEFCON in Las Vegas. DEFCON is also where I first spoke. I now spend a significant portion of my year teaching, running workshops and giving talks all over the country.
The last year has been incredible for Locksport, and I personally have been working very hard to put us more in the public eye as a positive, interesting and fun hobby. You'll find links to some recent media appearances below. I love locksport and I'm excited for what's to come.
